The Color Yellow

The color yellow is considered to be one of the components of the traditional color model known as RYB (Red, Yellow, Blue) and the CMYK color model. Yellow has a very wide range of shades from a pale, pastel yellow similar to the feathers of a baby chick to rich and golden yellows found in mustard seeds, ambers or sunflowers. The yellow in the traditional color model is more of a middle yellow which can be similar to the yellow of cooked yellow corn kernels. There are also bright yellows such as the peel of a lemon.

Word Associations with Yellow

Just as the shades of yellow are highly varied, so are the multiple word associations. While on one hand yellow is thought of as bright and cheerful like the sun, it also represents jealousy and aging. It is commonly used in the United States to represent caution, often being used on street signs and on streetlights.

Natural Yellows

Yellow is very prevalent in nature beyond the sun. There are hundreds of flower variations with yellow tones, whether it is the actual petals or the pollen centers. Many birds are adorned with brilliant yellow feathers as well as butterflies and other insects. And of course there is one yellow in nature almost everyone has seen at one time or another and that is the yellow stripes on a bumblebee.
